Medmenham, BKM
[O.S. Ref: SU 805 845]
Dedication: St. Peter
Largely built in the 12th century under the patronage of Hugh II, Baron de Bolebec, with a late 14th century tower and chancel.
The north chapel was built as a chantry by Hugh's heiress Isobel de Bolebec, widow of Robert de Vere, the 3rd Earl of Oxford.
Nearby Medmenham Abbey, founded in the 12th century, and seized during the Dissolution later became infamous as the location of
'The Hellfire Club', formerly called the Monks of Medmenham [see also West Wycombe].
