Christ Church, Spitalfields, LND
[O.S. Ref: TQ 337 817]

Probably Nicholas Hawksmoor's most famous church, built between 1714 and 1729. By 1960 the church was nearly derelict, the roof being declared unsafe and it was threatened with demolition. In 1976 the Friends of Christ Church Spitalfields, an independent charity, was formed to manage the restoration of this Grade I listed building, remove 19th and 20th century alterations and reinstate the interior to Hawksmoor's original design. The work was completed in 2004.
